Wondering what is the difference between a domain and hosting? A domain is, in simplest terms, the address of a website that displays in the browser bar. Hosting, on the other hand, is a storage service, maintaining the site on a server. In order for a site to work properly, you need both.
What is hosting?
Hosting is a service that allows you to publish a website on the Internet. All sites are stored (hosted) on servers. When users want to view a particular site, they only need to type its address in their browser. The computer then connects to the server, and the site is displayed through the browser.
What is a domain?
A domain is a unique Internet address under which services (such as Web pages) are available on the Web. The domain name is unique, and by using them, you refer to a well-defined resource on the Internet. A domain has the ability to have so-called subdomains - additional addresses that have been created in the domain address, such as blog.domain.pl.
Both the domain and hosting are the basis of presence in the online world. If you want to run your own website, you need both a domain and hosting. The former will allow you to be found at a specific address, while hosting will guarantee virtual space for your Web site.
A year ago, the share of the three largest cloud providers reached 62% of the total cloud market, which was estimated at $55.9 billion. Meanwhile, in the last quarter of last year, the big three's share rose another three percentage points to 65%. Considering that the market itself, meanwhile, reached $65.8 billion, we can see just how big the growth rate is.
Let's look at the detailed data:
- With a share of 32%, Amazon Web Service (AWS) is the undisputed leader. Although it must be admitted that this advantage is diminishing - as recently as the first quarter, market share 33%
- Microsoft Azure is in second place and growing stronger. Its 23% share has increased by two percentage points since the beginning of the year.
- Google Cloud gained double-digits for the first time in the fourth quarter of 2022 - 10%, and like Microsoft Azure grew by two percentage points, but it should be remembered that this is growth in relation to the overall market. Looking only at Google Cloud, we could be talking about growth of 25% in three quarters.
